Bonolon: Legend of the Magical Forest

‘Bonoron, the warrior of the forest’ lives in a mysterious gigantic forest called Tasumun. He is a nine year-old boy who has a strong sense of justice. When he sees you in trouble, he emerges from behind a big tree, and helps you solve your problems or makes your wishes come true. Here he comes! Bonoron is on the stage to greet you, so come and see him at the snow festival!

Harmony with Nature: Shiretoko's Forest Companions

Today, changes in the environment, caused notably by global warming, are having an alarming effect on the living creatures of earth. Hokkaido Toyako Summit scheduled in July 2008 is focusing on environmental issues including climate change. On this occasion, we would like to present an ice sculpture, enhanced by illumination and music that conveys how significantly the living creatures and the forests coexist in Shiretoko. It is our hope that Doshin Ice Square is a place where we can reflect about the environment.

The world of the Sci-Fianimation film, “Freedom” is recreated at UHB Familyland.
In the twenty-third century, mankind migrates from the earth to the moon. This snow sculpture expresses the adventure of the boys living in the Republic of the Moon called Eden. You can stand on the photo stages in the center of the snow sculpture to be a part of the scene, or watch the film ‘FREEDOM’ on the snow screen.

The very popular Tomodacchi characters are featured in this snow sculpture along with double slides.Those with children are especially welcome.

We Want to Protect the Earth and the Future of Our Children.
Environmental issues, notably global warming and climate change, are on top of the 2008 Hokkaido Toyako Summit’s agenda. In light of such an occasion, we desire to communicate the message that ‘We must protect our precious planet’ through a snow sculpture. This sculpture features two little children hugging the globe as they sit on the animals of Hokkaido, symbolically accompanied by seven buildings which represent seven nations attending the summit.

The Chronicle of Narnia: Prince Caspian

The long-awaited film, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’ is due to be released in May 2008 by Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media. In the meantime, you can get a glimpse of ‘Narnia’ here in Yomiuri Square. The large snow sculpture of Narnia, enhanced by music and colorful illumination invites you to a wondrous space. What is more, ‘the Pageant of Light and Sound’ is also played. So don’t miss out on the spectacular view of Narnia!

Do Your Best! Consadole Sapporo

Consadole Sapporo was formed in 1996 as the first ever professional soccer club in Hokkaido. Last season, the team won the J2 tournament and it is returning to J1 after an interval of six seasons. Here you see the team mascot Dole-kun shooting the ball at the goal before his home ground at Sapporo Dome that symbolizes the supporters’ long-hoped-for win in the J1 league tournament. Come join us here in Doshin Snow Square to cheer on Consadole Sapporo.

Sapporo Railway Station

Sapporo Station was opened in 1880 as a Sapporo (or Horonai) Railway’s Terminus. The first station building was used temporary, and then a new one-storied wooden building was built in December 1881. It began functioning in the following month in January 1882, but was destroyed by fire in 1907. Thereafter, the construction of the third generation building began in 1908 and was completed by December the same year. This charming Western style two-storied wooden station building had gained status as a symbol of Sapporocherished by many until 1952 when it was replaced by the fourth generation building. Today, the Old Sapporo Station Building reconstructed to a scale of 4/5, stands as the main entrance to the Historical Village of Hokkaido in Nopporo Forest Park.

Relics of Egypt

Here in the center, Behold! The Great Pyramid of Giza - the largest man-made structure in the history of ancient Egypt which is commonly believed to have been built as a tomb for King Khufu. Originally, the height of the pyramid was thought to be about 147 meters, and the base was almost 230 meters on a side, with a slope angle of approximately 51°50’. On the left, you see the Great Sphinx of Giza. Carved out of the surrounding limestone bedrock, the Great Sphinx is the largest single-stone statue in the world whose face is believed to be the head of King Khafra. Finally, a pair of the sitting statues of Ramesses II is on the right side. The original 20 meters-high statues of Ramesses II exist as a set of four statues, and can be seen at the Great Temple at Abu Simbel whose height is 32 meters and width is 38 meters.

National Treasure: Inuyama Castle

Inuyama Castle, commonly known as ‘Hakutei Castle’ is one of the four castles designated as a national treasure. It is claimed as the oldest castle in Japan. Inuyama castle located in the city of Inuyama, Aichi Prefecture was built in 1537 by Oda Nobuyasu, an uncle of Oda Nobunaga. However by 1617, after the Battle of Sekigahara, the castle was handed over to Naruse Masanari by order ofShogun Tokugawa Hidetada. Since then, the castle had been occupied by Naruse family for nine generations during the Edo Period. This four-story donjon in a watchtower-style built on the 40 meter-high southern bank of the Kiso Riverwas of great strategic and economic importance due to its convenient position for water transportation.

Young members of ‘The 101 Nin No Kai’ have spent almost a year to work over the ideas for this year’s snow statue project. Here come the Seven Deities of Good Fortune on their treasure ship. They have brought a dream and a hope to cheer Hokkaido whose economy still looks gloomy. Please do not make a money offering to the deities!!!

A Mammoth Adventure at the North Pole

The global warming triggered by the excessive carbon dioxide exhaustion has been causing abnormal weather conditions and the deterioration of the global environment is evident in every corner of the world today. Here on the stage: an arctic expedition team Chibinakkusu composed of Morisaki (team leader), Shige and Otoo is in the North Pole to examine the condition of ice…butsuddenly a living mammoth – supposed to be extinct ten thousand years ago – emerges from an iceberg! On top of that, Ice Age men named Oizumi and Yasuda, sealed in ice for a very long time are also standing there!! Are they warning us about global warming!?
